The problem with slow paced music is that it can go so slow, it can turn you into stone. Luckily The XX are the newest kids on the block who can drive a soft melody but don’t try so hard to be so utterly addictive and dominate your last.fm account. The girl-boy combo are a beautiful match, where some bands fall flat by having two contrasting singers making their sound too twanged. The band’s magnum opus song, Crystalised, is a clear and crisp breath of fresh, minimalistic air.

The XX have just released a magical album, a mishmash of plucky guitar string, RnB rhythms and ultimately drum machine beats that will make this slow burning fire explode as the diamond record of 2009. Need I bring up their looks or that they have just turned 20? I think not! If there is any band that I look forward most to this year it is The XX.

The XX are performing at The Bodega Social on the 7th October. Want to hear more then check out their myspace

Would be worth checking out the xx mix of florence and the machine – you got the love, but quite a cool twist on the song
