New figures obtained by Impact under the Freedom of Information Act revealed that just 6% of staff took part in March’s UCU strike action.

Out of 3,844 staff eligible to strike only 202 and 217 took action on the two days of the strike respectively, which was aimed at highlighting staff concerns over issues of job security, pensions and pay.

These figures have reinforced earlier suggestions that the strikes failed to cause significant disruption and the admission by a prominent local UCU member that the absence of academic staff “may not have been noticed”.
