If there’s one song that’s guaranteed to get toes tapping during the festive period, it’s Shakin’ Stevens’ ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’. The infectious beat, sax solo and unrelentingly upbeat lyrics all combine to form an essential part of the Christmas pop music canon and Shaky’s most well-recognised hit, grabbing the Christmas Number One spot in 1985.

As you would expect from a release from the golden age of MTV, Merry Christmas Everyone is accompanied by a suitably festive video, documenting Shaky’s quest to “find that girl underneath the mistletoe/and kiss by candlelight” accompanied by Santa, a huge sentient snowman, and various children with astonishingly bad haircuts.
