Impact Style Goes To: Vintage Fair at the University of Nottingham

On Friday, the 21st October, a nationwide vintage fair graced the University of Nottingham. The Portland Atrium was filled with a vast range of vintage and branded clothing, all striking to the eye. There was no way you were leaving without an item. I’m a massive fan of vintage clothing, so this was an absolute dream.

I began with a browse through the shirt section, where I spent a ridiculous amount of time sifting through the many statement pieces. There was just too much choice! You could go for a plain oversized shirt, simple and chic, pair that with leggings or jeans, old school trainers and a classic denim jacket. Alternatively, you could go for a striking colourful top, paired with a black bomber.

Materials ranged from silk to cotton to waterproof, perfect for any weather, occasion or event. Another material that was far from sparse was denim. From Levi’s jeans to dungarees, I was sure I was in denim heaven. There was also a range of branded items (which included vintage Nike, Adidas, Ralph Lauren and Ellesse) for sale, though these were priced a little higher.

One piece that caught my eye was this beautiful gold bomber. If I ever needed an item to spice up my outfit, this would be it. I am a huge fan of 80’s/90’s “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” style clothing and this jacket was perfection. The silk seemed to melt right into my hands and it was love at first sight. Unfortunately, on a student’s budget, I opted out of the purchase, but alas, gold bomber, we will meet again!

Prices ranged from around £10 to £40 depending on the clothes that you were interested in. Although I did think some items were quite pricey, I couldn’t deny that there was a great collection of clothes on offer.

One guy who knows style is Kieran Naidoo-Bagwell, 3rd year student at the University of Nottingham. I was loving his outfit, so I asked him about what inspires his dressing and what his favourite brand is, “I’m more into originality, so not necessarily brands, but looking for pieces that stand out. My favourite brand is Barneys New York”.

“Being stylish is a way of life and come rain/snow/storms, you must dress to impress, not even to impress anyone, but just for yourself!”

Other items that caught my eye were these incredible patterned oversized jackets. SO fetch. They would be perfect for winter, keeping me warm whilst showing that you don’t have to sacrifice for style.

Being stylish is a way of life and come rain, snow or storms, you must dress to impress, not even to impress anyone, but just for yourself! I felt those jackets would also be great for festivals, making it impossible for your friends to lose you, whilst totally staying “on fleek” for that bright, colourful, festival look.

Overall the Vintage Fair 2016 was enjoyable, with a lot of good merchandise on offer, and I’m looking forward to their next event.
